Slumdog Millionaire
Valentine’s day was quite good this year!
Watched “Slumdog Millionaire” with Gui, Joelle & Shiya. The film goes by a very sequencial thought process by what the character Jamal is feeling and remembering with each question that he has to answer during his “Who wants to be a millionaire” stint. However with each question, he is pushed back to a childhood memory which is totally not pleasant at all. With each correct answer to each question, he remembers the price he had to pay to actually ‘possess’ this knowledge and how he wished that he did not know this knowledge because he would not have lost that precious thing in his life. The film totally depicts how poor certain parts of India was and still is. How certain ‘organizations’ kidnap orphans and force them into leading a life of begging, stealing, working for gang bosses or being mistresses of gang bosses. But overall it is a film about how perseverance and holding on to that one thought that keeps your life going, can bring about the happy ending which you want.
I think it’s a really strong contender for Best Picture. Today I’d see how “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” tries to outshine that.
