We Will Rock You!

Caught the matinée show this afternoon and it was fantastic!!! The disco ball lights… the fantastically LOUD band! Usually musicals become a drag after a while but Queen’s music is of such wide variety that I was thoroughly entertained throughout the nearly 3 hours show! I guess I just prefer Pop music rather than pure musical numbers (the effect is so totally different from when I was watching Phantom Of The Opera, which was a total bore =X ).
The leads, Galileo (MiG Ayesa), Scaramouche (Talia Kodesh) & Killer Queen (Annie Crummer) were stunning, belting out my favourite songs “Killer Queen”, “Somebody to love”, “Who wants to live forever”, “Bohemian Rhapsody”, “We are the Champions”. Wow was totally high especially towards the end of the show… =D
I even bought a “Killer Queen” tee and also the OST (though after buying I realized it’s the London Cast… oh well).
OH MY GAWD! AI is BACK!!!
Seriously, I’m so glad that they changed the format of hollywood week! No more bitchy “i don’t wanna practice with you guys cos i’m good enuff by myself” group performances! If they kept that, I’d really find it a total drag and not watch that round ever again!
I’ve got to say that this season is really very good, can even compare with Daughtry batch (Sorry Taylor, Daughtry is the real winner of season 5). There are some that really struck quite an impression with me, here goes:
1) Danny Noriega
Totally OMG this guy (or rather gay :$). He’s super bitchy in a funny way, he even admits to being an airhead that is crazy about britney even though she’s all loony now (go watch his video on the AI website). But his voice is amazingly good even though he’s like super skinny and vain looking:
GAY POWER!
2) David Archuleta
This guy is a total sweetheart. Watching him perform really warms my heart… awww… and he sounded really good singing “Waiting for the world to change”
3) Kady Alexis Malloy
wah seriously I still cannot get over her britney impersonation. She REALLY SOUNDS LIKE BRITNEY (eh hem! only when she does the impersonation and not when using her real singing voice)!!
4) Michael Johns
This guy’s good, don’t get me wrong. I wasn’t really rooting for him much… until I heard him sing BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY!!! MAMA!! OOOO!!! Really great. If he wins, it’s technically gonna be Australian Idol, rather than American Idol.
And a whole lot others which are great… and some unknowns which they didn’t show -.-
TOP 24 here we come! (I am getting really excited about once they get to all the themes every week: more Queen, bon jovi, billboard 100 please!)
P.S. Luckily they didn’t put Josiah through… He was all cute (cos of his childlike face and very blond hair) and funny singing with a British accent, but he was gradually getting super duper irritating, always so whiny and crying all the time! Gosh! When Simon told him that he is getting super overconfident, his face was like immediately started crumbling on stage… get over it man! Watch this if you dare (else can just skip to 4:33 when it goes totally downhill):
P.P.S. too bad they didn’t put through Drew Poppelreiter… He looks like a blond version of JOSH HARNETT! haha
传一’s album is out!!!

Only comprising of 3 songs, this album can be considered to be long awaited by some because it contains 我要的世界, 換換愛 & Welcome to my heart. All from Taiwanese Drama 換換愛, which incidentally like the other show (with the original cast) 恶魔在身边 does not have a soundtrack of it’s own. I guess maybe it’s to cut cost or something as Rainie is sort of a full time singer of her own and also now 传一 can also possibly come out of his shell and become solo singer (and let them release the songs in their albums instead of releasing their own soundtrack for the show).
Even though 传一 (or maybe I should add the word “totally” here) doesn’t have the best singing voice but the songs are great because they really compliment the scenarios in the show when they are played. I really think 传一 and 贺军翔 really acted very well in the show (especially 贺军翔) because the amount of detail of expression that they acted out really presents the story and feeling of their characters very well. The slight change in eyebrow expression can really make you feel the heartbreak that they feel when the feelings of the girl that they like seems to have swayed to the other party. And maybe they did not put in enough effort all this while and that feeling of regret hits you hard. :’(
Now I’ve just got to wait for Rainie’s album to be out to get the other 2 songs from the show!
Chinese pop of late…
林忆莲 – 不必在乎我是谁 & 听说爱情回来过
Finally got my hands on these 2 songs. I have to say that 不必在乎我是谁 has got to be the song which has the saddest lyric ever! Here’s an excerpt:
女人若沒人愛多可悲 就算是有人聽我的歌會流淚
我還是真的期待有人追 何必在乎我是誰
Heard about this song when I was watching the 康熙来了 episode with S.H.E on it and Selina was discussing about the song which would make them cry whenever they sing it at KTV. And I think this was what made me want to go and find out what is 星光大道 or 星光帮 as I’ve been hearing this being mentioned on quite a few Taiwanese variety shows. Wow and I did get a shock when I saw some of the videos of the show.
Apparently 星光大道 is the taiwanese version of American Idol, some sort similar to 快乐男声 (the china version). And they practically made some virtual unknowns in taiwan into household names. People like 杨宗纬, 蕭敬騰, 林宥嘉, 潘裕文 are the more popular ones. I personally feel that 林宥嘉 and 蕭敬騰 are the more musically inclined ones, while 杨宗纬 is the one that really sings from his heart. When you watch him perform, you really can start feeling the tears welling up in your eyes. I especially got chills when I heard his rendition of 不必在乎我是谁 & 听说爱情回来过 and also him, 蕭敬騰 & 曹格 singing 背叛: totally like 3 guys with amazing vocals trying to outshine each other. I bet 曹格 really felt the pressure of the other 2 as they were all putting in their best. But well, sometimes 杨宗纬 is a bit too OVER la… and he keeps crying when someone gets eliminated from the show! hahaha but all of their voices really amaze me. 他们看起来很平凡,但声音是如此的具有爆发力。And due to them singing these songs on the show, the songs become popular at KTVs all over again.
And recently, I’ve been drilling myself with Chinese pop all over again.

JJ’s 西界 actually sounds bearable after hearing it once, shelving it for a few months, then re-listening to it. Not as good as 曹操 but I guess it grows onto you after some time. My favourite track so far is the last one, 自由不变。The sudden 古装 musical segment in the middle was the part which totally captured my attention at first. But later I found it a little extra. But the lyrics are great as well. Another quirky fact about one of the songs, 独白, is that the guy who does the creepy:
是誰需要殺手
殺手是一種死神的存在嗎
可以決定人的生死
而又是誰來決定殺手的生死
另一個殺手嗎 還是愛
殺手還有心嗎 能愛嗎
is actually none other than our very own 王传一!!! Haha I thought that’s quite funny for him to voice this.

Lee Hom’s 改变自己 was initially a great disappointment to me. I remember my mood for the entire day was totally spoilt after I finished listening to the album. Don’t expect any huge ballad for this album. The biggest ballad you will hear is probably 落叶归根… I totally can understand the theme for this album and it’s musical direction but it really doesn’t satisfy my musical appetite. I really expected so much more from Lee Hom. Was waiting for him to stretch his vocal cords and for that feeling of “WOW”-ness to get to me once I heard something really fantastic. But none of that ever got to me. =_= My favourite track is 我们的歌, I would say that it encompasses 3 sections which sound great on it’s own but when combined together makes a very powerful contrast that sticks to your mind. His duet with Selina has got to be one of the weakest duets vocally of all his duets ever sang. A bit on the cheesy 60s kind of feel. And 爱在哪里 sounds like a boyzone song! Haha
